Nestled among rolling hills and lush green pastures near Henderson, Texas is the beautiful MT Ranch. Owned and operated by Matt Turner, this ranch is a wonderful example of conservation and stewardship of nature’s resources. Over 400 high-fenced acres are home to many beautiful exotic species. Native whitetail were removed prior to construction of the high fence in order to provide a truly exotic experience for ranch visitors. Species that reside at the MT Ranch include Axis deer, Red Stag, Fallow deer, Gemsbock, Scimitar Oryx and Blackbuck Antelope. But it is the Barasingha deer and their many fawns that appear to be the pride of MT Ranch. The Barasingha or swamp deer is a deer species currently found in isolated localities in northern and central India, and southwestern Nepal. Sadly, it is now extinct in Pakistan and Bangladesh due to poaching and diversion of the bulk of grassland to agriculture. The vast grasslands were not only their food source, but also provided security for young fawns during the birthing season.
