Red Stag

Red Deer are the largest wild animals in the country. A mature stag stands about four feet high at the shoulder, and weighs up to three hundred pounds. The stag is famous for its proud bearing and magnificent antlers. The antlers are long - thirty six inches is considered a good head - hard and spikey. The head or trophy is referred to by the number of its points eg. a ten pointer.

Fallow Deer

The extant species of fallow deer found in Britain was introduced by the Normans in the 11th century although some would suggest that the Romans attempted to introduce it here much earlier. Fallow deer were prized as ornamental species and were protected in Royal Hunting "Forests" for royal sport.

Axis Deer

A moderately large, spotted deer with three tines on each antler; the brow tine forms nearly a right angle with the beam and the front (or outer) tine of the terminal fork is much longer than the hind (or inner) tine; a gland-bearing cleft is present on the front of the pastern of the hind foot; upperparts yellowish brown to rufous brown, profusely dappled with white spots; abdomen, rump, throat, insides of legs and ears, and underside of tail white.

Black Buck

About the size of a small deer, the blackbuck is a member of the antelope family. The permanent horns, not antlers which may shed, of the Blackbuck are ringed with 1 to 5 turns, rarely more than 4 turns, and can be as long as 28 inches. A trophy Blackbuck is 18+ inches.

Scimitar Oryx

Scimitar-horned oryx are mostly white with reddish brown necks and marks on the face and a long, dark, tufted tail. The white coat helps reflect the heat of the desert. These desert antelope stand up to 4.6 feet tall at the shoulder, and their head and body length is between 4.9 and 7.5 feet, plus a long tail. They weigh between 220 to 460 pounds.

Gemsbok

The Gemsbok is a very striking animal with dramatic features and long spear like horns. It has a thick horse like neck with a short mane that runs from the head to the shoulders and a compact, muscular body. The distinctive black and white markings on their face's are said to have contributed to their name Gemsbok, given to them by the Boers, which means chamois.

Barasingha

This handsome member of the deer family is also one that was closest to extinction a few decades ago. Although their numbers have now revived, it is still an endangered species and is spread across central and northern India only in small congregations
